A charming antique Italian majolica sauce or gravy boat attributed to the renowned Cantagalli workshop of Florence, Tuscany.


Dating from approximately 1900–1930, this decorative serving piece features a soft white tin-glazed earthenware body decorated with vibrant hand-painted flowers, including orange-yellow blooms, blue cornflowers and flowing green foliage. The elaborate dolphin or serpent-shaped handle gives the piece a distinctive sculptural character typical of Italian Renaissance revival ceramics.


The base carries the famous Cantagalli cockerel mark, confirming its association with one of Italy’s most celebrated historic ceramic workshops.


The piece displays authentic age-related wear, including small rim chips and areas where the white glaze has flaked away to reveal the warm terracotta clay underneath. These marks of age are typical of antique majolica and do not detract from the decorative appeal or historical interest of the piece.


A wonderful collector’s example of early 20th-century Italian pottery, suitable for display or inclusion in a collection of European decorative ceramics.
