A handsome vintage Royal Doulton "John Barleycorn" character jug (Model D5327), designed by Charles J. Noke and produced in Stoke-on-Trent, England.


This attractive blanc-de-chine white glazed example offers a distinctive alternative to the familiar hand-painted colour versions, emphasising the sculptural modelling and expressive character of one of Royal Doulton's most iconic designs.


John Barleycorn, the traditional personification of barley and the brewing of ale and whisky, became one of Royal Doulton's best-known character subjects following its introduction in 1933.


This example has an unmarked base with no factory backstamp. Although the precise reason cannot be verified, such examples are of interest to collectors as production variations within Royal Doulton's long manufacturing history.


An excellent addition to any collection of Royal Doulton character jugs, British ceramics or twentieth-century decorative pottery.
